Catch this time capsule of 1980s hip hop and rap—featuring amazing live performances by Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys, Beastie Boys, New Edition, Run DMC, and Sheila E.—presented in 35mm as part of Retrospective: Michael Schultz.
Inspired by the early days of Def Jam Recordings and cofounders Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin, Krush Groove follows record producer Russell Walker (played by Blair Underwood), who runs into trouble when he borrows money from a loan shark in order to press records of the label’s new hit by Run DMC. Meanwhile more trouble brews as romance comes between Walker and his brother (played by Joseph “Run” Simmons). (97 mins., 35mm)
