This harrowing tale of a French murder investigation recalls such memorable screen thrillers as David Fincher’s Zodiac and Bong Joon-ho’s Memories of Murder.
Winner of six Césars (the French equivalent of the Oscars), including Best Film and Director, The Night of the 12th follows the prolonged investigation into the murder of a young woman who was set on fire after leaving a party in her small Alpine town. The two investigators assigned to the case suspect revenge as the killer’s motive and interview a string of the woman’s ex-boyfriends and lovers, only to run into one dead end after another. Partially inspired by a true story, the drama combines all the elements of the true crime genre with deeper insights into the male-dominated world of law enforcement. (French with English subtitles, 115 mins., DCP)
