Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini—among the most radical filmmakers of the 1960s and 70s—was brutally murdered on the outskirts of Rome in 1975. This lovely, haunting film sees Willem Dafoe channel Pasolini in the final days of his life, drawing on the director's last interview and imagining scenes from an unmade final film. The iconoclastic Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, King of New York) avoids biopic clichés to make a visionary tribute to one of cinema’s most unruly artists. (87 mins., DCP)
