ACCESSIBILITY We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation such as CART captioning or ASL interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or via telephone at (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
Director Jennifer Reeder joins us for this screening of her latest feminist mash-up of teen drama and supernatural horror—a hit at the Berlin Film Festival.
Columbus native Jennifer Reeder returns to the Wexner Center with Perpetrator, the gripping tale of a daring teen girl named Jonny (Kiah McKirnan), who’s sent to live with her aunt Hildie (played by former teen icon Alicia Silverstone) after her father falls ill. On arriving at her new school, she becomes involved in a series of disappearances of local girls and takes matters into her own hands when she discovers her main suspect is the son of a cop.
Some have described Reeder’s films as a cross between the teen comedy of John Hughes and surreal noir of David Lynch. Perpetrator also includes nods to the cult classic high school satire Heathers (1989) and the giallo horror of Dario Argento, the subject of a retrospective here this summer. (101 mins., DCP)
The Wex is excited to welcome back Reeder, who has introduced her films here numerous times, received postproduction support for multiple projects from our Film/Video Studio, and received Wexner Center Artist Residency Awards in 2007 and 2017. Join Reeder for a reception with snacks and a cash bar from 6 to 7 PM in the lower lobby, and stick around after the screening for a Q&A with the director.
