The Smallest Show on Earth

(Basil Dearden, 1957)

35MM Print

Still from The Smallest Show on Earth

In this charming British comedy, a young couple (played by real-life couple Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna) thinks their money troubles are over when they inherit a movie theater from a distant relative. But their plan to quickly flip the property for cash is dashed when they discover they have a fleabag cinema on their hands—along with an eccentric staff including alcoholic projectionist (played by Peter Sellers). It’s the perfect post-Thanksgiving diversion for (or from!) out-of-town guests. (80 mins., 35mm)
