Few films have captured the horrors of our contemporary moment like Terror Nullius, a new project by the two-person art collective Soda_Jerk. Revealing the dark heart of Australia, the anarchic film remixes footage from the country’s cinematic history to bring its suppressed histories to the surface. No national icon is safe from the pair’s video wizardry. Not Mad Max. Not Picnic on Hanging Rock. Not even Crocodile Dundee. A major Australian funder of the project released a statement the day before the film’s premiere saying they did not wish to be associated with it. A punk-rock yelp against the injustices of the world, Terror Nullius is an unbridled cinematic fever dream of political vengeance. (55 mins., DCP)
