Satoshi Kon's holiday classic screens in a new English dub that is a breakthrough in trans representation in animation!

Tokyo Godfathers sees three homeless people discover an abandoned baby girl on Christmas Eve in modern day Tokyo. As they try to solve the mystery of the lost child and the fate of her parents, they also confront their own pasts and face their futures, together. In this new dub, the key role of Nana is voiced by a trans actress (previously the character was voiced by a man), a breakthrough casting decision that accurately reflects the legendary trans character. Cowritten by Keiko Nobumoto (Cowboy Bebop), Tokyo Godfathers is a masterpiece of Japanese animation. We're also excited to also host a screening of the film in its original Japanese language (with English subtitles) on a 35mm print. (92 mins., DCP)
