In this powerful multimedia performance, Ohio State’s Kevin McClatchy portrays a US Army Special Forces veteran who is transitioning from military to civilian life.
Using spoken word, verbatim text, movement, and sonic immersion, actor/writer McClatchy places the audience at the center of the veteran’s experience of armed conflict and its aftermath. Inspired by a true story, Scrap Heap is a turbulent, darkly funny, whiplash tour that examines the costs of war through the eyes of one forgotten soldier. This intensely physical production, directed by Ohio State Professor Jeanine Thompson, questions what is demanded of military service members as well as society’s responsibility to welcome them back.

Kevin McClatchy has been a working actor for nearly 30 years in theater, film, and television. McClatchy’s recent acting credits include The Tempest at the Royal Shakespeare Company; the films Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile; On Sacred Ground; and Old Man and the Gun; as well as episodes of WGN America's Outsiders and NBCUniversal's Gone. An Ohio State alumnus with an MFA in acting, he joined the university’s acting and directing area faculty in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts in 2013 and oversees the acting curriculum. McClatchy directs the Shakespeare and Autism Project—a collaboration with the Ohio State Nisonger Center—and is the lead facilitator of the Shakespeare & Veterans Initiative, a collaborative partnership with the Columbus VA.
