Doug Varone and Dancers present three pieces that explore the emotional depth of humanity and the powerful connections we make with one another.
For 40 years, Doug Varone and Dancers has perfected the art of embodying emotional depth and humanity through Varone’s dynamic and emotionally resonant works, which have been performed in 45 states and across the world. As part of the Ohio State University Department of Dance’s Holistic Approaches to Transformative Choreography (HATCH) initiative, Doug Varone and Dancers will be joined onstage by eight Ohio State students for Double Octet. (75 mins. with intermission)

Double OctetChoreography by Doug VaroneMusic by Philip Glass
Double Octet is part of the company’s Education/Performance Project, which brings dance students from the Ohio State Department of Dance into the company’s repertory to share the stage with company dancers.
HomeChoreography by Doug VaroneMusic by Dick Connette
Home, created in 1988, is foundational to the legacy of Varone’s work. It brings us into a domestic space shared by a couple, exploring their individual interior lives and the complexity of their faltering relationship.
RestoreChoreography by Doug VaroneMusic by Nico Bentley
Restore feels as if it has been ripped out of today’s front pages, bringing a message of community, defiance, and resilience in the face of ever-present danger.
On the concert stage, in opera, theater, and on the screen, Varone’s kinetically thrilling dances make essential connections and mine the complexity of the human spirit. On tour, the company has performed in more than 125 cities in 45 states across the US and in Europe, Asia, Canada, and South America. Stages include the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Joyce Theater (NY), San Francisco Performances, Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), Harbourfront (Toronto), Stanislavsky Theater (Moscow), Teatro San Martin (Buenos Aires), the Venice Biennale, Marble Hall (Tokyo), and the Bates, Jacob's Pillow, and American Dance Festivals. In opera and theater, the company regularly collaborates on the many Varone-directed or -choreographed productions that have been produced around the country.
