Fragmented Shadows

Midwest Premiere

a blurred image of three dancers sitting on the floor with their hands raised.

Wanjiru Kamuyu explores the body as a site of liberation through dance, sound, and imagery in collaboration with dancers Elodie Paul and Sherwood Chen.

Fragmented Shadows brings attention to untold stories of the personal, ancestral, and societal invisible wounds that imprint on our bodies and shape our well-being in seen and unseen ways. Supported by epigenetic and psychosomatic research, the three performers trace an inner, abstract, and visual journey into the body, weaving a tapestry of memories. In Fragmented Shadows dance becomes a practice of healing and release, transforming the body into a site of liberation and creating a powerful visual and emotional landscape. An internationally renowned choreographer, Kamuyu has collaborated with other notable artists featured at the Wexner Center including Bill T. Jones and Julie Taymor, among others. (program approx. 55 mins.)

Join us for live audio description at the October 23 performance. Program notes will begin at 6:30 PM. We offer Listen EVERYWHERE streaming, and a limited number of assistive listening devices are also available for your convenience.

Stay after Wednesday night’s performance for a brief conversation with the artists.
