Come Hell or High Femmes: The Journey of the Dolls

Columbus Premiere

Artist Keioui Keijaun Thomas performing Comme Hell or High Femmes at Performance Space New York. Her shoulders are bare, and there are two separate lines of floral-shaped rhinestones on her chest. On top of her head, she wears a plastic bag with the handles tied. The entire room is bathed in blue light.

Catch the Columbus premiere of Keioui Keijaun Thomas’s Come Hell or High Femmes: The Journey of the Dolls—an in-gallery performance livestreamed to audiences in our Performance Space.

Set within a postapocalyptic geography made up of paper bags, dead leaves, latex gloves, plastic buckets, and tree stumps, Thomas’s solo performance—presented in conjunction with her films and installation on view in Portal For(e) the Ephemeral Passage—explores camouflage and metamorphosis as modes of survival and transcendence for queer and trans people. She moves through sound, light, poetry, dance, and music to embody personal connection and care, as well as resistance and healing.

Portal For(e) the Ephemeral Passage is an interdisciplinary exhibition curated by jaamil olawale kosoko that amplifies Black feminist voices in contemporary art and performance. Click here to view the complete lineup.

"This is a love letter; a gentle reminder; a kiss up into the sky; a guiding light for black and brown femmes to know that we are here. We have always been here."
