Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Meshell Ndegeocello pays musical tribute to author James Baldwin and his revolutionary work The Fire Next Time.
Ndegeocello’s sound meets at the intersections of jazz, gospel, R&B, and singer-songwriter. Thematically the show will follow the arc of Baldwin’s work like a procession in a Black church, from baptism and testimony to praise and resurrection. Ndegeocello performs here in the wake of her new record No More Water, released on August 2—Baldwin’s 100th birthday. (program approx. 90 mins.)
