After spending recent weeks focused on themed series such as Pioneers of Queer Cinema and annual events such as the Banff Mountain International Film Festival and Ohio Shorts, the Wex's Film/Video team has filled the month of June with critically adored new feature films and new-to-Columbus restorations.
Among the selections coming in the month ahead are Cauleen Smith's seminal 1990s indie Drylongso (June 2–3); Una vita difficile (June 9–10), which has the distinction of finally arriving in US theaters a full 60+ years after its initial release; the intriguing new David Hammons doc The Melt Goes on Forever (June 23–24); and a major multi-award winner from France, the based-in-truth thriller Night of the 12th (June 29–30). Hit play above to watch trailers for them all.
Also in June, we'll present the dystopic Brazilian drama Dry Ground Burning, featuring a motorcycle-riding, all-woman band of rebels, on the 16th and 17th. And in other exciting news, after years of operating in the mode of a traditional institutional screening room, we've made snacks, soda, beer, and wine part of the Wex moviegoing experience with some help from our partners at Heirloom Café. Here are more details on our new concession offerings.
And don't forget: not only is it easier to park on-street during summer on campus, we now offer a discounted parking rate of $2 for the Union garages for most Film/Video events, through a partnership with CampusParc. We hope you'll spend some time in the dark with us soon.
