Be among the first to see our autumn exhibitions featuring the work of Rotimi Fani-Kayode and Ming Smith at this free opening celebration.
Explore issues of identity, race, desire, and spirituality in two powerful exhibitions that focus on photography. Rotimi Fani-Kayode: Tranquility of Communion, organized in partnership with Autograph, London, is the first North American survey of the Nigerian British artist’s work. His practice cut across cultural codes, gender norms, and artistic traditions while taking a reverent look at queer sexuality. Ming Smith: Wind Chime pairs recent multimedia work and a Wexner Center–commissioned project by the Columbus-raised artist with Africa, the series documenting everyday scenes from across the continent that started her career in 1972. The exhibition also features an ambient soundscape by Smith’s son, Mingus Murray.
Both exhibitions are part of the FotoFocus Biennial: backstories. Learn more about the program and related events.
In addition to getting a first look at these presentations, interact with large-scale furniture by Outpost Office outside on the Plaza, follow Nancy Holt's installation Pipeline from outside the building into the lobby, and experience Awilda Rodríguez Lora's video Sustento in The Box.
The reception begins at 5 PM. At 5:30 PM, everyone is invited to a conversation with Mark Sealy and Ming Smith, moderated by Yasmina Price, in the Film/Video Theater. The exhibitions will open to the public after the talk.
