Join acclaimed multimedia artist Alex Da Corte for an illuminating walkthrough of the exhibition John Waters: Indecent Exposure. Da Corte will discuss Waters’s transgressive humor and strident subversion of beauty, taste, and pop culture, and how they’ve influenced his own practice.
More about the speaker
Alex Da Corte is known for creating immersive and evocative installations, sculptures, and videos that forge unexpected associations, misuse commonplace objects, and destabilize values assigned to iconic figures in popular culture (including Mr. Rogers, Eminem, Frankenstein, and Big Bird, among others). Presenting characters in unfamiliar or mutable states of being, Da Corte’s work situates the viewer in a fantastical, dreamlike territory that feels daft and outlandish but moreover poetic, sensual, and deeply empathetic. He has exhibited internationally at such venues as White Cube Gallery in the UK; Secession in Vienna, Austria; and Mass MOCA in the US, and in such festivals as the 57th edition of the Carnegie International, Pittsburgh.
