Cultural studies scholars Frederick Luis Aldama and William Anthony Nericcio read from and sign copies of Talking #BrownTV: Latinas & Latinos on the Screen, recently published by Ohio State University Press.

Beyond frustrated with mainstream TV’s profiting off warped caricatures of Latinas, Latinos, Latinxs, Mexicans, Hispanics, and brown folks of all stripes, Aldama and Nericcio interrogate one of the largest paradoxes in the history of American television: why are there so few Latinxs on TV, and why, when they do appear, are they so often narcos, maids, tarts, flakes, and losers? The result is this new work—a rollercoaster ride through decades of pop culture.

In a moment when anti-Mexican and anti-immigrant rhetoric oozes from screens and media platforms everywhere, Aldama and Nericcio invite you to enjoy a bold antidote: this thoughtful meditation on the reconstruction of Latinxs in mainstream TV and the US today.
