Please note: In light of developments surrounding COVID-19, this event has been postponed and a new date may be announced soon.
Join us for the Midwest launch of award-winning poet William Evans’s powerful new collection We Inherit What the Fires Left. The evening features a reading by Evans followed by a book signing and reception.
In We Inherit What the Fires Left, Evans explores the lived experience of race in American suburbs and what dreams and injuries are passed from generation to generation. Writing from the perspective of the marginalized, he delivers an unflinching examination of what it’s like to be a black man raising a daughter in predominantly white spaces and the struggle to build a home and a future while carrying the weight of the past.
Evans, cofounder of the popular culture website Black Nerd Problems, will sign copies of the book (available for purchase) after the reading. Arrive early and enjoy our current round of exhibitions—admission to the galleries is free 4–8 pm.
