Unorthodocs 2026

In its tenth year, the Wex’s annual festival celebrating the art of creative nonfiction filmmaking is more vital than ever. This year features an eclectic mix of topics and forms (including animation and live performance) that is a valuable reminder of the genre's power. We are also creating a rare opportunity for films to come off the screen and into our theater by bringing in some of the central figures featured in the documentaries.

The state of documentary film distribution is dire—last year only 2 of the 12 essential films screened at Unorthodocs got even a modest national release—and events like Unorthodocs are often the only way to connect audiences with these urgent and innovative films and filmmakers.
