Beneath the Planet of the Apes

(Ted Post, 1970)

An ape wearing a leather headdress and armor stands in front of other apes wearing matching orange uniforms.

If you thought talking apes were weird, wait until you see the end of the sequel to the original Planet of the Apes!

Astronaut Brent (James Franciscus) crash lands on a strange planet in search of the crew that disappeared on an earlier mission. He discovers that not only have thousands of years passed but that he is on a planet ruled by apes. Bad, right? Things get even worse when he discovers a subterranean group of creepy mutant humans (spoiler: he’s on Earth) who worship a nuclear missile capable of wiping out what’s left. Can he and Taylor (Charlton Heston) stop them? A strange, dark, and campy cult classic. (95 mins., 4K DCP)

"A fascinatingly off-key artifact from a time when Hollywood franchises weren't so curated."
