My Imaginary Country

(Mi país imaginario, Patricio Guzmán, 2022)

a person's face covered in black fabric except for the eyes

Renowned filmmaker Patricio Guzmán examines Chile's recent social protest movement with a hopeful eye toward the future.

Over his more than 40-year career, renowned Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán (The Battle of Chile, Nostalgia for the Light) has been one of the world's most unflinching and politically committed documentarians. Forward-looking and hopeful, My Imaginary Country documents the massive social protest movement that swept Chile from 2019 to 2021 and led to the regime-changing election of a new left-wing coalition. Through harrowing protest footage and interviews with inspiring activist leaders, Guzmán traces lines through the country's complex, bloody history to its revolutionary present. In Spanish with English subtitles. (83 mins., DCP)
