See rarely screened short films from members of the Sudanese Film Group in this free virtual presentation.
The documentary Talking About Trees (screening October 29 as part of Unorthodocs) shows the Sudanese Film Group's contemporary efforts to revive collective cinemagoing in Sudan. This online program offers the chance to see early short films created by the group’s members from the 1960s to the 1980s. Made against the backdrop of a long-term civil war, the films range from the allegorical to documentary—providing a remarkable glimpse into this seldom-seen moment in film history. In Arabic with English subtitles except for Jagdpartie, which is in German with English subtitles. (program 153 mins., digital video)
