Have any questions?
Don’t miss this rare screening of the joyful West Indian musical designed to lift your spirits and have you dancing in the aisles!
Siméon is the beloved music teacher of a small village in Martinique who finds a kindred spirit in his star student, the gifted guitarist Isidore. Together with Isidore’s 10-year-old daughter, they set out to put their island on the map by bringing their percussion-driven zouk music to the world. When tragedy strikes, a little magic helps bridge the gap between dreams and reality. Except for the two lead actors, the cast is made up entirely of musicians, most notably the prolific French Caribbean band Kassav’, championed by jazz legend Miles Davis. Recipient of a 2022 honorary Academy Award, Euzhan Palcy is best known for her films Sugar Cane Alley and A Dry White Season (the first film from a Black female director produced by a major Hollywood studio), but her lesser known Siméon is one of the biggest delights in her filmography. This new 4K restoration has only played in the US a handful of times, so don’t miss this rare opportunity! In French with English subtitles. (115 mins., 4K DCP)
