ACCESSIBILITY
The short film Light Signal contains several sequences with flashing lights.
We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including individuals with disabilities, to engage fully. If you have questions about accessibility or require an accommodation such as CART captioning or ASL interpretation to participate in this event, please contact Accessibility Manager Helyn Marshall at accessibility@wexarts.org or via telephone at (614) 688-3890. Requests made by two weeks in advance will generally allow us to provide seamless access, but the Wexner Center for the Arts will make every effort to meet requests made after this date.
This perennially popular program spotlights short films from up-and-coming filmmakers and established artists working in a dizzying range of forms and tones.
Among this year’s highlights is Midwaste, a searing portrait of the opioid epidemic. Former Columbus resident Liz Roberts combines personal video footage from the 1990s with present-day reflections to challenge ways addiction redemption stories are told. Also featured is Alexis McCrimmon’s heron 1954–2002, a spare cinematic memorial to a loved one who died of an accidental opioid overdose. Through texturally rich and layered 16mm images, McCrimmon (an editor in the Wex’s Film/Video Studio and the sound designer on Midwaste) finds the mythic in the mundane and a container for her grief. (program approx. 75 mins., DCP)
