No Philosopher King: An Everyday Guide to Art and Life under Trump

Hands holding book

Author and Ohio State professor Richard Fletcher, aka Minus Plato, reads from his recently published book No Philosopher King: An Everyday Guide to Art and Life under Trump (AC Books, 2019).

Drawing wisdom from ancient philosophers and poets and the spirited rebellion of the contemporary arts scene, Fletcher’s ongoing blog Minus Plato offers daily musings concerning the state of global politics and the duty of citizens to dissent. At the same time, it also acts as a sabotage manual against the oppressive myths and flagrant sins of patriarchy, ancient and modern.

In this vein, Fletcher will read from his chapter on myths and misogyny in No Philosopher King, expanding his argument beyond the pages of the book to incorporate his new research on the unfinished curriculum of the documenta 14 exhibition (split between Athens, Greece, and Kassel, Germany in 2017) and a current project called Caryatids and the Patriarchy
