Resting Places: Cinema at the End of Life

A collage of six stills from films in our Resting Places series
A series of films that consider the mystery, grief, and collectivity that emerge at the end of life.

More than six million people have died of COVID-19 worldwide, yet the demands of capitalism have us marching forward with no time to rest, process, or grieve. With this need in mind, Resting Places brings together an international collection of films that invite us to examine different aspects of death and dying—from meditating on its mystical qualities and considering its political implications to digging into the labor involved in caring for the dead. Spanning dramatic and documentary features as well as compelling short works, Resting Places moves us closer to one of the most unknowable—and yet certain—of human experiences.
