Documentary filmmaker Sam Green returns for a four-night retrospective of his inquisitive and playful body of work.

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sam Green is best known for his inventive “live cinema” works, which feature the director’s in-person narration and musicians performing a live soundtrack. As part of this retrospective celebrating his 25-year career, Green returns to the Wex to present his latest, acclaimed live documentary 32 Sounds, accompanied by musicians JD Samson and Michael O’Neill.

The Wex is proud of its longstanding relationship with Green. The director finished his first film, The Rainbow Man/John 3:16 (1997), as a resident in our Film/Video Studio, and premiered it at the Sundance Film Festival shortly thereafter. Green has returned to the studio several times, including to work on The Weather Underground (2002). The film received wide acclaim, premiering at Sundance and gaining a nomination for Best Feature Documentary at the 2004 Academy Awards. He received Wexner Center Artist Residency Awards in 2010 and 2016 and has presented his films at the center on many occasions, including The Love Song of Buckminster Fuller with live music by Yo La Tengo (2012) and A Thousand Thoughts, a live documentary with the Kronos Quartet (2018).
