Celebrating Julia Reichert: Her Life and Legacy

Steven Bognar in person

Columbus Premiere

Julia Reichert in the mid 1970s, she has short hair, glasses and is in front of a microphone.

This tribute to the late Julia Reichert celebrates her legacy and spirit through never-seen-before footage of her life and work.

In 2019, the Wexner Center was honored to organize the retrospective Julia Reichert: 50 Years in Film, which toured around the US to venues including MoMA, the Walker Art Center, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, the National Gallery of Art, and more. The following year, Reichert and her partner Steven Bognar won the Academy Award for Best Documentary for their film American Factory. Those who knew her and her work are still recovering from her December 2022 death in Yellow Springs, Ohio, at the age of 76.

This program will bring Reichert’s inspirational spirit to the Wexner Center yet again with three short films by Bognar that highlight the incredible woman behind the camera. Remembering Julia surveys her exceptional film output over the decades, Julia Home Movies is a poetically intimate look back on her life, and Julia’s Stepping Stones is a beautiful reflection on her journey narrated by Reichert herself.
