Film Treasures from The Ohio State University Libraries

Introduced by Tim Lanza and Sarah Hartzell, University Libraries

New Restoration

Black-and-white still of a Black woman and a Black man embracing in front of a wooden house.

Tim Lanza and Sarah Hartzell are back for a second year with a selection of historical films from the vault of the University Libraries.

It is estimated that The Ohio State University Libraries’ Special Collections hold tens of thousands of historic audiovisual items, many original or unique, in as many as 30 different formats. We’re thrilled to spotlight the library’s audiovisual preservation and digitization lab and the work that is done there to identify, preserve, and make accessible this massive amount of material. This year’s program features works that have been digitized through an ongoing collaboration between the lab and the University Libraries’ Special Collections. It includes short films and excerpts including Porgy and Bess in Wien (c. 1953), the Admiral Richard Byrd home movie Kids on Brimmer Street (1927), and more! Check back for a complete lineup closer to the date. (program approx. 75 mins., DCP)

Tim Lanza is the audiovisual preservation and digitization lead and Sarah Hartzell is the audiovisual preservation and digitization specialist for The Ohio State University Libraries.
