An animated image of a bearded man and a woman with long dark hair facing each other and smiling. A headshot of a woman with long curly hair and glasses.

Codirector Brenda Chapman, the first woman to direct an animated feature for a Hollywood studio, visits the Wex to discuss the production of that landmark film.

The Prince of Egypt was the first production created by DreamWorks Animation (Antz was the first film to be released), carving out a place in film history for both Chapman and the studio. The film became an instant critical and box office success upon its release in 1998, and its reputation only continues to grow to this day.

An animated retelling of the life of the prophet Moses from the book of Exodus from the Old Testament, The Prince of Egypt features an astonishing cast of voice actors including Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Patrick Stewart, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, Steve Martin, and Val Kilmer as Moses. Chapman also codirected the Oscar-winner Brave (2012) for Pixar. (99 mins., 35mm).

Join us for a discussion and Q&A with director Chapman as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Prince of Egypt with a free screening. And come early for a reception with Chapman and NBCUniversal’s Chase Schulte with snacks for sale and a cash bar from 5:30 to 7 PM in the lower lobby before the screening.
