Be inspired by the men of the Sudanese Film Group as they revitalize film culture in their country after decades of government censorship.
In Sudan’s capital city of Khartoum, any movie theater still standing has long been abandoned after more than 30 years of strict government censorship of the film industry. Tired of their involuntarily retirement, four elderly veteran directors from the Sudanese Film Group decide to bring cinema culture back to their crisis-ridden country. While facing persecution, exile, and countless bureaucratic obstacles, the men maintain a generosity of spirit and an infectious love of the movies. The resulting portrait of their friendship, dignity, dedication, and shared obsession offers a sense of hope that defies borders. In Arabic with English subtitles. (93 mins., DCP)
