Filmmaker Beatriz Santiago Muñoz explores her moving image work at this special Unorthodocs edition of Diversities in Practice.

Santiago Muñoz, a filmmaker who participated in Cinetracts ‘20 at the Wexner Center, returns to speak to her moving image practice, which draws from Boalian theater, expanded cinema, and feminist practices. Santiago Muñoz’s films will be screened during Unorthodocs Shorts, and The Crow, the Trench and the Mare will precede If from Every Tongue It Drips on October 29 at 1 PM. 

A short conversation and audience Q&A featuring filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo follows the presentation. Aldarondo’s film You Were My First Boyfriend screens at Unorthodocs on October 28.

This Diversities in Practice is presented as part of Unorthodocs, the Wexner Center’s documentary film festival, and admission is included with the Unorthodocs 2023 festival pass.

Diversities in Practice is a collaboration between Ohio State’s Wexner Center for the Arts, Department of Art, and Living Culture Initiative. This series includes talks and moderated discussions featuring a range of artists, thinkers, and practitioners engaged in compelling and critical work, centering projects that examine, shape, and push both material and ideological boundaries. These presentations will be available online throughout the year.

About the Artist

Beatriz Santiago Muñoz chevron-down chevron-up

Beatriz Santiago Muñoz was born in 1972 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She studied film and video at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her MFA in 1997. As a filmmaker, Santiago Muñoz blurs the lines of documentary filmmaking. At play in her work is the push and pull between fact and fiction, truth and aesthetics. Her art is part of public and private collections at the Museum of Modern Art; Kadist, San Francisco; and the Guggenheim, among others. Santiago Muñoz has also held solo exhibitions around the world.
